Janine Buser

Janine Buser is a graduate of Georgetown University with a first career in government affairs. After homeschooling for 20 years, she is currently a Boots & Roots early childhood teacher for the Scent of Water homeschool learning community in Dunn Loring, Virginia. Janine is married, has four adult children, and is a member of Cherrydale Baptist Church in Arlington.

Janine is the Volunteer Area Coordinator of Operation Christmas Child’s DC Metro Area Team, serving Washington, DC, Arlington, and the City of Falls Church. She has volunteered year-round with the team since 2016 but has been packing shoeboxes since 1999. Understanding how a single, simple gift can eternally impact a child’s life compels her to seek ways to increase the number of shoeboxes packed by our community.

Alex Nsengimana

Growing up in midst of an unstable Rwandan government, Alex Nsengimana experienced first-hand the travesties of his nation’s genocide. At the height of tribal unrest, the genocide claimed the lives of his caregivers. Fleeing for his life, Alex escaped gunmen and eventually ended up in an orphanage that was his home for the next several years.

Alex received a shoebox from Operation Christmas Child one year after arriving at the orphanage and remembers being so excited to have a gift to call his own. Alex now serves with Operation Christmas Child, paying forward the hope and love he received through a shoebox gift.
